Alaska

You can’t talk about this list without mentioning or talking about Alaska. It’s one of the prime fishing destinations in the world and one that you should certainly visit if you love fishing.

There’s a vast variety of salmon to catch in Alaska: king salmon, red salmon, and silver salmon are available for you during your angling trip into this state. However, salmon isn’t the only thing that’s on the list. You can also catch cutthroat trout and steelhead trout when in season. These are some of the best fishes in the world, and many will undoubtedly like to mount their prize fishes.

Alaska is home to some of the biggest and tastiest dishes globally. Many anglers worldwide would sacrifice everything for a chance to visit this beautiful state. However, like many other places we’re going to state in this list, there’s so much more to visiting Alaska than fishing.

If you’re an outdoorsman that loves hiking or mountain climbing, then you shouldn’t miss the chance of climbing the more than 20,000 feet Mount Denali. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to climb one of the highest mountains in the world. However, if you’re more into cuisine, Alaska also has a place for you.

The Crow’s Nest in Anchorage is a must-visit if you go to Alaska. It has some of the state’s best views and serves all sorts of local cuisine, including scallops and game meats. However, make sure to get a reservation before you visit because it’ll undoubtedly be packed.

Massachusetts

If you like Alaska, then you’re going to love Massachusetts. It has almost the same climate as Alaska, maybe just a little warmer. This means that you’re likely to catch the same fishes you caught in Alaska in Massachusetts. However, there are also some differences in the fish you might see.

Massachusetts is famous for the Atlantic cod and the black sea bass. The Atlantic cod is one of the best competitive fishes because of its size. It can weigh around 30 pounds on average, but the state record is a staggering 90 pounds. That’s a big fish and one you should aim to catch when in Massachusetts.

But fishing isn’t the only thing you can do in this state. You can visit the city of Nantucket, an island off Cape Cod. But what can you do in Nantucket within a day? Well, tons of things. For starters, you can enjoy Jetties Beach, a familiar tourist spot among many people living within the area. You can also visit the Whaling Museum. It’s one of the few we have in the country.

Other things you can do include visiting well-known landmarks such as the Old Mill, Cisco Brewers, and the Lighthouse. You can do tons of activities on this small island, and you can do it all within a day so that you can move to the next fishing destination the next day.

Cairns, Australia

If you want the big fishes mountain on your wall, you’re going to visit Australia, specifically, Cairns. Cairns is home to one of the biggest fishes in the world, the Black Marlin.

The fishes we’ve stated earlier are dwarfed by the black marlin, which on average can weigh over a thousand pounds. Because of its sheer size, you’re going to need a special kind of fishing rod to catch one and a team to keep watch. However, catching this big fish is a lifetime opportunity, so make sure that you don’t miss it.

There are also many things to do in Cairns aside from fishing. You can sample the local delicacies or even snorkeling to see some underwater sights. There’s a lot to do and discover in Cairns, so make sure to have it on your next trip.

Kona, Hawaii

Another place to catch big fish, specifically some blue marlin, is Kona, Hawaii.

The blue marlin is one of the most coveted fishes globally, and if you’re an experienced angler, this one should be on your list. Also, when it comes to other things you can do in Kona, well, there’s a lot. It’s in Hawaii, so you’re going to be exposed to one of the best cultures and cuisines in the world, alongside world-class beaches. What’s not to love?

Fishing is one of the favorite pastimes of many Americans. If you want to level your angling skills or go for a challenge, make sure to visit these places.
